Data recovery

Data gone? Stop, and call us first.

Whether it’s a folder deleted by mistake, a server that won’t boot, a NAS showing failed disks or files encrypted by ransomware, the first hour matters. The wrong move, such as repeated restarts, a rebuild or “trying something from YouTube”, can make recovery much harder. We assess quickly, tell you honestly what’s recoverable and get to work.

Common situations

What we recover from

  • Deleted files & folders

From servers, OneDrive, SharePoint, mailboxes and recycle bins, often completely recoverable if acted on quickly.

  • Failed servers & NAS

RAID arrays, failed disks and corrupted volumes, handled carefully to avoid making things worse.

  • Dead laptops & PCs

Drives that won’t boot, water damage or corrupted systems, with data recovered to a new device.

  • Ransomware

Containment first, then recovery from backups, shadow copies or cloud versions where they exist.

  • Lost email

Deleted mailboxes, corrupted PST files and accidentally purged folders.

  • Microsoft 365

Overwritten files, deleted sites and leavers’ data restored from versions and backups.

Our process

Careful first, fast second

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what happened

What was lost, when, and what’s been tried so far. Then please stop using the device.

  2. Step 2

    Assess

We establish the cause and give you a realistic view of what’s recoverable and how long it will take.

  3. Step 3

    Protect

Where hardware is involved, we copy the drive before working on it, so the original is never put at further risk.

  4. Step 4

    Recover

Data recovered to safe storage, with priority on the files you need most.

  5. Step 5

    Verify & prevent

You check the results, and we fix the backup gap that made recovery necessary.

Honest expectations

We’ll tell you straight what’s possible

Some data can be recovered in minutes, some takes days, and occasionally, such as a drive with severe physical damage, specialist clean-room recovery is the only option. In those cases we’ll say so, explain the costs and coordinate with a specialist lab on your behalf.

No false promises and no charges for work that couldn’t succeed without telling you first.

FAQ

Data recovery questions

Can’t see your question? Call 01843 482 279 or email hello@squareoneit.co.uk. You’ll get a straight answer from an engineer.

What should I do straight after losing data?

Stop using the affected device or share. Don’t restart repeatedly, run repair tools or reinstall anything, because each action can overwrite recoverable data. Then call us.

Can you recover files after ransomware?

Often, from backups, cloud version history or system snapshots, if they weren’t also encrypted. We’ll contain the attack first to stop further damage, then work through every recovery option. We advise against paying ransoms.

Do you help businesses that aren’t your clients?

Yes. Data recovery is available to any business in Kent. Many of our clients first came to us in exactly that situation.

How much does data recovery cost?

It depends entirely on the situation. A deleted folder may take minutes, while a failed RAID array can take much longer. We’ll give you an assessment and estimate before substantial work begins.
