Leased lines

A connection that’s yours alone

A leased line is a dedicated fibre connection between your premises and the network, not shared with the neighbours. You get the same fast speed in both directions, all day, and a service level agreement with a guaranteed fix time. It’s the choice for busy offices, multi-site businesses and anywhere downtime is simply too expensive.

When it makes sense

Signs a leased line is right for you

  • Lots of people online

Twenty-plus staff on video calls, cloud apps and VoIP at the same time.

  • Heavy uploads

Design files, video, large backups or hosting services that send as much as they receive.

  • Downtime costs money

If an afternoon offline means lost sales or penalties, a guaranteed fix time is worth paying for.

  • Multiple sites

Offices connected privately and reliably to each other and to the cloud.

  • Hosting on site

Servers, remote desktops or systems that people outside the building rely on.

  • Operations that can’t stop

Warehouses, logistics and production where systems must keep running.

What to expect when ordering a leased line

Leased lines take longer to install than broadband because a dedicated fibre may need to be built to your building, sometimes involving wayleaves with landlords and roadworks. We manage the whole process: the survey, any permissions, chasing the carrier and configuring your network for the switch-over.

We’ll usually recommend a temporary or backup connection so you’re not waiting on the new line, and so you’re protected once it’s live.

FAQ

Leased line questions

Can’t see your question? Call 01843 482 279 or email hello@squareoneit.co.uk. You’ll get a straight answer from an engineer.

How much does a leased line cost?

It depends on bandwidth, contract length and how far your building is from existing fibre. Prices have fallen a lot in recent years. We’ll get quotes from several carriers and present the options clearly.

What speed do we need?

We size it from your team, what you run in the cloud and your growth plans. Many small businesses are well served by 100–500 Mbps symmetrical, and bandwidth can usually be increased later without a new install.

What are excess construction charges?

If significant civil works are needed to reach your building, the carrier may charge extra. These are identified at survey stage, and we’ll tell you before you commit.

Do we still need a backup connection?

For critical sites, yes. Even with a fast SLA, a second line, whether broadband or 4G/5G, keeps you working while a fault is fixed.
