Network management

A network you never have to think about

Slow file transfers, dropped video calls and the mysterious box in the cupboard nobody dares unplug are all symptoms of a network that grew by accident. We design, secure and monitor your firewall, switches and Wi-Fi as one managed system, and we fix problems before your team notices them.

  • Microsoft Partner
  • Cyber Essentials certified
  • 5.0 on Google
  • 24/7 monitoring of firewalls, switches and access points
  • 1 team for the network, the internet line and the devices on it
  • VLANs keeping staff, guests, phones and cameras apart
  • MFA on every remote connection into the office

What we manage

Everything between the internet and your desk

Networks fail at the joins, so we look after all of it as one system.

  • Firewalls

Business-grade firewalls configured to a secure baseline, with firmware kept current and rules reviewed, not added to forever.

  • Switching & VLANs

Managed switches that separate staff, guests, phones, cameras and card machines onto their own secure segments.

  • Wi-Fi

Access points placed by survey, not guesswork, with seamless roaming and separate guest access.

  • Secure remote access

VPN or zero-trust access for staff working from home or on the road, protected by MFA.

  • Monitoring & alerts

Every device watched around the clock. Outages, overloads and odd traffic reach our team straight away.

  • Documentation

Diagrams, IP plans and configurations recorded and kept current, so there are no mystery boxes.

A real scenario

8:58am, Monday: “The internet’s down”

Here’s what a managed network looks like on a bad morning.

  1. Step 1

    We already know

Monitoring flags the primary line as down before anyone in the office picks up the phone.

  2. Step 2

    Backup takes over

Where there’s a failover line, traffic moves across automatically and phones and payments stay up.

  3. Step 3

    Cause found

We check the firewall, line and carrier status to tell a local fault from a wider outage.

  4. Step 4

    Carrier chased

We log the fault with the provider and chase it, so you don’t spend the morning on hold.

  5. Step 5

    Back to normal

The main line returns, traffic moves back and you get a short summary of what happened.

Security at the edge

Separate networks for separate jobs

In too many small offices the guest Wi-Fi, the CCTV recorder, the card machine and the file server all sit on one flat network. If any one of them is compromised, everything else is reachable.

We segment your network so each group of devices only reaches what it needs. It’s one of the simplest, most effective security improvements a business can make, and it helps with PCI DSS for card payments and with Cyber Essentials.

  • Staff devices, guests, phones, cameras and payments kept apart
  • Firewall rules that allow what’s needed and block the rest
  • Unused ports disabled, admin access locked down

FAQ

Network management questions

Can’t see your question? Call 01843 482 279 or email hello@squareoneit.co.uk. You’ll get a straight answer from an engineer.

Can you work with the network equipment we already have?

Often, yes. If your firewall and switches are business-grade and still supported with security updates, we’ll take them over, reconfigure them securely and monitor them. If something is end-of-life, we’ll explain why and plan its replacement.

Why is our Wi-Fi slow when our broadband is fast?

The usual culprits are too few access points, poor placement, interference from neighbours, or a consumer router doing too many jobs. A short survey usually finds the cause quickly.

Do you support multi-site networks?

Yes. We connect sites securely with site-to-site VPNs or SD-WAN, so staff can reach shared resources as if they were in the same building, all monitored centrally.

Who owns the configurations and passwords?

You do. We document everything, including diagrams, configurations and admin credentials stored securely, and it stays yours.
