Managed IT support

Managed IT support with a helpdesk that actually picks up

Outsourced IT support for businesses that have outgrown “the person who’s good with computers”. You get a helpdesk your team can call, monitoring and maintenance running in the background, and security built in from day one, all for a fixed monthly price per device.

What it means

What managed IT support actually means

Managed IT support means we take responsibility for your technology, not just for individual problems. Instead of paying someone by the hour when something breaks, you pay a fixed monthly fee and we keep your devices, users, Microsoft 365 and network healthy, secure and up to date.

Most of that work is invisible. Every managed laptop and server reports to our monitoring platform around the clock. Updates are applied on a schedule. Endpoint protection with managed detection and response watches for threats. Backups are checked. When something drifts out of line, our team sees it and deals with it, often before anyone in your office has noticed.

The visible part is the helpdesk. When your team needs help (a new starter, a printer sulking, a file that has vanished), they call, email or use the client portal and reach an engineer who already knows your setup. No call centre, no script, and no invoice afterwards.

What’s included

Everything covered by our managed IT support

Here is what our team takes on when you sign up. Items marked with a plan name are included from that plan upwards. Everything else comes with every plan.

Helpdesk & user support

  • 24/7 helpdesk Complete

Round-the-clock support for teams that work evenings, weekends or across time zones.

  • Remote fixes, in minutes

Secure remote sessions so most problems are solved while you’re still on the line.

  • Client portal

Monitoring & maintenance

  • 24/7 device & system monitoring

Disk health, performance, antivirus status and backup results, watched continuously.

  • Managed Windows updates

Security patches tested and rolled out on a schedule, not left to “remind me tomorrow”.

  • Third-party app updates Business

  • Proactive remediation Business

Problems flagged by monitoring are fixed by our team without waiting for a ticket.

Security built in

  • Endpoint protection with MDR

Managed detection and response on every device, with security analysts ready to act on threats.

  • Email security management Business

Filtering for phishing, impersonation and malicious attachments before they reach inboxes.

  • Device encryption Business

A lost laptop becomes a hardware problem, not a data breach.

  • Security awareness training Complete

Short, practical training plus simulated phishing campaigns to build good habits.

  • Password manager & endpoint firewall Complete

A managed password manager for the team and a managed firewall on every device.

Microsoft 365

  • Microsoft 365 management

Users, licences, mailboxes, Teams and SharePoint looked after, and security settings kept switched on.

  • Microsoft 365 backup Business

Independent backups of email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. Microsoft doesn’t keep deleted data forever.

  • Backup monitoring & test restores Business

We check backups complete and regularly prove they can be restored.

People & devices

  • New starters & leavers

Accounts, licences, laptops and access set up on day one, and removed properly when someone leaves.

  • Laptop & desktop set-up

New devices configured to your standard, with security tools and apps ready to go.

  • Printers, phones & peripherals

The everyday kit that stops people working if it stops working.

Strategy & suppliers

  • IT strategy planning Business

Regular reviews and a roadmap, so upgrades are planned and budgeted rather than urgent.

  • Vendor management Business

We deal with your broadband provider, line-of-business software vendors and hardware suppliers for you.

  • Clear documentation

Your setup written down, so nothing depends on one person’s memory.

The helpdesk, step by step

What happens when you raise a ticket

A good helpdesk isn’t just fast. It’s predictable. Here is exactly what happens between “it’s not working” and “that’s sorted”.

  1. Step 1

    Raise it your way

Call us, email support@squareoneit.co.uk or use the client portal. Every request becomes a ticket, so nothing gets lost in someone’s inbox.

  2. Step 2

    Logged and prioritised

We prioritise by impact and urgency. “Nobody can send email” outranks “my second monitor flickers”, and you’ll know where your ticket stands.

  3. Step 3

    An engineer picks it up

You speak to someone who knows your systems. Most fixes happen over a secure remote session. If it needs hands on site, we book a visit.

  4. Step 4

    Fixed, and explained

We tell you what was wrong and what we did, in plain English, and confirm it’s working for you before the ticket is closed.

  5. Step 5

    Stopped from coming back

Repeat issues get a root-cause fix. If three people report the same thing, we fix the cause, not three symptoms.

Weighing up your options

Managed IT support vs. the alternatives

There are three common ways a small business handles IT. Each has its place, so here is an honest side-by-side.

Pay-as-you-go / break-fix Hiring in-house IT SquareOne managed IT
Predictable monthly cost Pay per incident, so costs spike when things go wrong Fixed salary, plus tools, training and cover Fixed price per device
Monitoring before things break Nobody is watching between call-outs Depends on their tools and their time 24/7 on every plan
Security tools & expertise Usually extra, if offered at all One person can’t specialise in everything MDR included, with a specialist team behind it
Cover for holidays & sickness If someone’s available When they’re off, nobody is on A whole team knows your setup
Breadth of skills Varies by engineer Strong in some areas, gaps in others Microsoft 365, security, networks, connectivity and voice
Best suited to Very small set-ups with rare, simple issues Larger firms with enough work for a full-time role Small and growing businesses that need it all to just work

FAQ

Managed IT support questions, answered

Can’t see your question? Call 01843 482 279 or email hello@squareoneit.co.uk. You’ll get a straight answer from an engineer.

What does managed IT support include?

Every plan includes a helpdesk for your team, 24/7 monitoring of your devices and systems, managed Windows updates, endpoint protection with managed detection and response (MDR), Microsoft 365 management and access to our client portal. The Business plan adds proactive remediation, third-party updates, Microsoft 365 backup, email security, device encryption, vendor management and IT strategy planning. Complete adds a 24/7 helpdesk, security awareness training, simulated phishing, a managed password manager and a managed endpoint firewall.

How is managed IT support priced?

Per device, per month, excluding VAT: £23 on Essentials, £28 on Business and £35 on Complete. A device is typically a laptop or desktop someone works on. Helpdesk tickets aren’t charged individually and there are no call-out fees. Projects such as office moves, new networks or major migrations are scoped and quoted separately, and always agreed before any work starts.

How quickly will you respond when something goes wrong?

We prioritise by impact and urgency, so something stopping your whole business gets immediate attention, while a minor annoyance is scheduled around it. Because we monitor your systems continuously, many issues are picked up and fixed before anyone reports them.

Is managed IT support worth it for a business with under 10 staff?

Usually, yes. Small teams feel downtime the most because there’s nobody to cover. A fixed monthly cost also tends to work out cheaper than a couple of emergency call-outs, and it brings proper security (MDR, managed updates, MFA) that a small business would struggle to put in place on its own.

Do you support Macs, phones and home workers?

Yes. We support staff wherever they work, including home and hybrid set-ups, and we manage company phones and tablets through mobile device management so data stays protected if a device is lost. If your team uses Macs, tell us at the health check and we’ll confirm how we’ll cover them.

Will we be tied into a long contract?

We’ll set out the agreement term and notice period clearly in your proposal before you sign anything, with no surprises in the small print. Talk to us about what would suit your business.

Can you work alongside our existing in-house IT person?

Yes. Co-managed support gives your IT person a team behind them, with our monitoring and security tools, specialist knowledge and holiday cover, while they stay focused on the work that needs someone on site every day.
